Pediatric Prosthesis
Ophthalmologists refer pediatric patients to the ocularist, 4 to 6 weeks after enucleation surgery, that will provide an opportunity for the child to become personally acquainted with our ocularist. Then a prosthetic eye is introduced to the patient.
Some pediatric patients also present with microphthalmic eyes or with injured eyes which are discolored and disfigured can also be corrected with cover shells.
Between the ages of two to five, annual replacements should be done to match with the childs growth. But after that age an annual replacement is not necessary. And it depends on the tissue settlement in the eye socket and growth of the child. It is better to review in six months intervals.
